“Voltage dysfunction wipes off Hard Disk, back to stone age” read my Facebook status message (yes, me too , an orkut traitor who has fallen for the charm of FB... FB, which came to my life few months back like the first drizzle of the summer, ladened with the smell of the soil)
Just like any boy’s status message, this one too had less than 5 likes and 2 comments...had it been a girl’s status message then the 5 would have had few zeros to the right and the comments would have lasted a few pages long...but then that’s how life is...compared to the tragedy that struck in the form of bad sector in Hard disk , this FB status tragedy is ignorable.
It was in mid 2007 that I started this place, to post non stop blah blah as mentioned in the first post which started with a statutory warning...this place went on to give birth to 17 more posts in 4 years, not a bad achievement for someone whose name will appear as a synonym for laziness in standard dictionaries...
Last time the need of the hour was a CD writer , now its a portable Hard disk...last time it was drive C which was absconding...so, anticipating another drive C wipe off next time, I stored everything in Drive D and E but this time it was drive D and E which eloped after the voltage surge !
Losses incurred included over 4000 songs, two dozen movies, countless number of photos , over 6 GB of vedanthic stuff, collection of softwares which could make even my company envy me, games, utilities, god knows what more...oh, the most precious of all - the folder with a peculiar name which had all the colours , agonies , ecstasies and two drop of tears zipped and kept in the shades of drive D, which fueled me to write the most talked about post among the 17 named ‘she came, she saw...’ - all vanished away irrecoverably...
The post which I had typed and kept in anticipation of publishing when I happen to meet my destiny , the post which was in the womb for over 3 years and caused me inexplicable pain - as MT had put it, that will never get published, perhaps it was in the destiny of that post.
And to store whatever was recovered from the Hard disk, a portable hard disk was made use of, which had the recovered 3 GB of data out the 70 (thanks to bad sectors spreading all across D and E- only 3 GB out of the 70 could be recovered and that too at the mercy of cracked version of god damn dollered-recovery-tool). Few days after the first disk crash, would you believe it , this portable thing also crashed. And whatever little got saved went unsaved. Height of good times it seems !
Perhaps it will take me another year to digest the magnitude of this wipe off as I will start to realize in detail what all I have lost.
Nonetheless , this history-repeating-stuff gives me a chance to come before you - my ever supportive, ever lovely, ever lasting readers , not as one of those freaky, dreamy, romance starved characters but as the person himself-as the hard disk-deprived unfortunate soul. If the post appears unnecessarily complicated with lot of commas and hyphens then its not your fault, its because I am going nutts...Let me keep this one small , honouring the request made by many a reader...I understand that small is indeed beautiful !
Moral this time - History is bound to repeat, whether you need a piece of it or not depends on your hard disk!

Dear Raj,
I feel sorry for your lose...
I was expecting sequel of "she came, she saw..." ;(
Don't want to pour oil in flame, though you should have taken some kinda precautionary measures, coz Its not the first time!!
Recommending you Google docs again. Whatever will happen to your machine; you won't loose last typed letter, if you are typing on gdoc. Nonetheless, google stores it in hard disk (prone to bad sectors ) though more reliable than ours.
Write more and engage your mind in interesting things!!!
This post is a sign for me to be more careful with my data.... thank you :)
@sandeep
points noted, and stored in google docs :)
though 70 GB of stuff wouldn't have
sufficed in google docs...thats why didnt use it earlier.
I have got over it anyways, was penning down the state of mind when it happened...
thanks , your comments are valuable as always. :)
Never ever keep your ongoing-post in your hardisk, always save as draft somewhere online at the end of the day. (Saw that you already took that advice from Sandeep later ;))
Although I never had the patience to write something for more than two days, I too had a similar situation recently.
I lost something that I have been writing for 4 hours and felt instant madness. I could feel, how desperate you would be :D
@Kiran
Thankyou. I saw your 'lost browser session' few days back.
It was not an ongoing post, but a post waiting to see the light of the day for 3 years !
@raj - that's good ;)
@kiran - yeah! I saw your "lost session" status message in faceboox and weird comments ;)
@raj - Beat me to it ("lost session") ;)
